Everything Is Connected / You are not alone
A complex system is not built from the 'sum of its parts', but its true strength comes from the connections between those parts. Whether that system is a motherboard, a city, or even the human brain, they each rely on the pathways through which information, energy, and resources can move. Roads, circuits, and neural connections may at first glance look different, but they serve the same fundamental purpose: allowing separate parts to communicate and function as one.
Connection allows separate things to become part of something greater.
These systems exist across multiple layers, creating different routes for different kinds of movement. But connection alone is not enough. Every system requires energy and resources, and its ability to manage what it consumes is just as important as what it produces. When the flow is disrupted, the entire network can be affected.
The motherboard, city, and brain therefore form a progression:
Motherboard → City → Brain
The motherboard is an engineered network of rigid pathways. Components occupy deliberately chosen positions. Bus lanes and traces carry information according to predefined rules. Everything appears calculated, necessary, almost infallible.
The city combines engineered infrastructure with unpredictable human behavior. A city expands the idea idea; Roads intersect, neighborhoods form, hospitals, homes, businesses, industries, and public spaces become connected through infrastructure—but also through the people moving between them. A city is not merely buildings and streets. It is millions of interactions happening through them.
Then there is the human brain, billions of neurons communicate across an extraordinary network of connections. Those connections allow us to remember, imagine, fear, hope, learn, and wonder what comes next.
And beyond all three is the larger system of existence itself. Just as a chip is connected to a board, a building to a city, and a neuron to a brain, we are connected to everything around us.
Perhaps that is why gravity should not be seen only as something that holds us down. The same force that anchors us to Earth is part of the system that allows us to look upward. The stars are not separate from us—they are another part of the same connected universe.
We don't know who we will meet tomorrow. We don't know which conversation will change us, which stranger will become important, or which seemingly insignificant moment will alter the direction of our lives.
Which brings me to my point. YOU are not alone.
The YOU reading this post, is a part of so much more. There is no need to fear the unknown, it is simply a path that has yet to be traveled. Everyone follows their own path through life, even when we try to follow in someone else’s footsteps.
We take a step into something we cannot know, and somehow the ground meets us. Then we take another. We learn. We change. We grow. And with every step, we encounter more of the enormous network of people, places, ideas, and experiences surrounding us.
We connect. Sometimes for decades, sometimes for only a moment, and sometimes without ever realizing it. Consider where you are right now. I don't know who you are. I don't know where you're sitting, what your life has been like, what you're afraid of, or what future you're trying to find. I may never meet you. I may never know your name.
But you're reading this.
Somewhere, at some point, I arranged these words to express something inside me. And now those same thoughts exist inside your mind, interpreted through your memories, your experiences, and your understanding of the world.
For these few moments, something that existed within me has reached you.
We are connected.
Not because we planned to be. Not because we followed some predetermined road toward one another. Simply because our paths crossed here. And if something as small as a few words can bridge the distance between two people who may never meet, imagine how many invisible connections already surround you.
The 'road' before us is never was 'set in stone' as we like to believe. Neither light nor darkness truly fills the expanse ahead. Choosing to turn on a light in a time of darkness may change how we see the future, but it does not determine what that future will be. Where you go, how you get there, and when you take that next step are still yours to choose.
So fear not the future. Fear not what you cannot see. No one can see their future. Only the past becomes clear. Hindsight may show us exactly how we arrived here, but the future remains uncertain. We can only make our path as we walk it.
Which brings me to another point in this post. I feel one of the biggest misconceptions about life is the image of a winding road stretching into the distance—a path of cobblestone, dirt or pavement, eventually splitting into forks where we must choose which direction to take. Different branching decisions we have yet to make, creating the illusion of a looming and overwhelming choice, where the wrong one leads to ruin.
But that’s not quite right. Only the path behind us exists. The path ahead hasn’t been made yet. The next line of text you have yet to read has yet to exist in your conscious. You can stop reading here and it ends. You take away what you will from what you've read so far and learn from it, or not, and move on with your life.
Or you can continue to read, as if you stand at the edge of a vast void. Maybe yours is white. Maybe black. Maybe it’s filled with a vast multitude of color. The backdrop is yours to imagine, but the vast emptiness before you remains. All that's left is to venture onwards and discover where your next step stakes you.
So you take a step forward and where the void retreats beneath your foot, the path behind you becomes one step longer. Then you take another step.
And remember the connections unseen. The person who built the road you traveled today. The stranger whose kindness changed someone's life before that person eventually entered yours. The hands that made something you use every day. The people whose ideas became the foundations for your own. Connections upon connections.
A chip to a motherboard. A road to a city. A neuron to a brain. One person to another. And beyond all of us, the world itself.
That is the path to the future.
It’s a little heavier than we might like to admit. We might imagine possible roads ahead because they give us stability. They might make us feel prepared. They might give us the comforting illusion that we know where we’re going. Or they might overwhelm us. We might succumb to despair and the uncertainty in the fear of the wrong choice might drive us mad.
But the truth is: The unknown is frightening. Not seeing is frightening. Not knowing is frightening. Not being in control is frightening.
And that’s okay.
It’s something I’m learning to accept myself—to be okay with not knowing what lies ahead. To understand that I cannot prepare for everything. We’re human. We aren’t perfect. We cannot always be ready, and we cannot always be safe.
As we grow older, the path behind us becomes clearer. But look back at your first steps and ask yourself:
If you had to live your entire life again, could you reproduce it perfectly? Every decision, every conversation, every accidental meeting, every missed opportunity, every laugh, every tear? Could you make everything happen exactly as it did without knowingly—or unknowingly—changing a single thing?
Of course not. And that’s okay. You are already part of something larger, just as I am. You don't need to plan for perfection to be connected because you are already a part of it all.
You have never existed alone.
And somehow, against all the impossible distances and countless paths our lives could have taken, you found these words.
Which means, for this moment at least, you found me. I don't know where your next step will take you. But I believe you can take it. After all, without ever meeting, without knowing each other's names or lives, we've already managed to meet here.
I believe in you.
So I can say with certainty, that I believe in you. The YOU reading this now. The YOU that may not believe in yourself sometimes. I don't need to meet you to know that you carry that same potential that built roads and cities and machines and more.
The map to the stars lies within us already.
Who will I see up there with me?
